Madeline Miller, please come to the front of the classroom! Who told you that you could break my heart after writing this book! If you grew up reading the Percy Jackson series, you would LOVE The Song of Achilles.
The Song of Achilles is an amazing retelling of the Greek myth of Achilles from the perspective of Patroclus. Patroclus was known to the world as Achilles’ closest and most trusted friend. However, Madeline Miller explores another side of Patroclus and Achilles that made me want to weep!
Greek mythology has always been my favorite to read when I was younger, and going back to it as an adult has been such a joy! Madeline Miller does a fantastic job bringing a new perspective to a myth that has been known for centuries. If you have not read this book, WHAT ARE YOU DOING? I also recommend reading her retelling of Circe, which is also so good! I was not familiar with Circe’s story, but I loved every moment of it!
While this book is not necessarily a romance, it does have romantic undertones throughout the book.
Madeline Miller, if you are planning to bring us back to the world of Ancient Greece, just know that I will be second in line to buy it, and my best friend will be first in line. I give this book 5 stars!
